FROM THE HEART OF THE FORESTS TO THE FRONT LINES: THREATS LINKED TO OIL EXPANSION IN THE DRC
The expansion of fossil fuel extraction activities in the DRC is accelerating. Yet the message from scientists, local communities and civil society is clear: oil exploitation in the Congo Basin is not compatible with a viable future. This report calls on the DRC government and its international partners to cancel the 2025 oil bidding round and invest in alternative development models that respect the rights of indigenous peoples and communities, preserve local livelihoods and protect biodiversity and the climate on a global scale. Indeed, what happens in the Congo Basin will have consequences far beyond its borders.
